I know a few of you have been brain-storming an idea for a dsv/plug to stop free flowing while surface swimming. I though I would post a picture of a dsv that I built several years ago and have been using. It is constructed out of a pvc ball valve and has the standard wagon wheels. In the water you can not really feel it in your mouth, but at the same time it stops floaty hoses. It might be something to work with for those interested.

Very interesting. Is that an 1 1/2" ball valve? Was just wondering if the wagonwheels fit into the ball valve socket. What did you use for the mouthpiece?

I have one of those on my workbench. I am not all that happy with the size of it. Could you provide more details on yours.

When I get home tomarrow I will put up some stats on the dsv for you guys. I am away right now and do not want to give the wrong size parts. On the particular size valve that I used I was able to use a drill press to fit normal size double hose wagon wheels.

The ball valve is a 1'' and I bored out the end with a drill press a slight bit to have it fit a standard double hose mouthpiece cage. Here is a link that will more or less walk you through the process.

You will notice that he glues the pvc pipe mouthpiece to the exterior of the ball valve. I instead fitted the pvc pipe with the help of a heatgun to fit inside the drilled 3/4'' hole for less bulk. Just a little pvc glue and its a smooth transition. If there is anything I am leaving out please do not hesitate to ask questions.

The following were found on the web...

If any of you have access to some machinery something in this ballpark could be a possibility. I am thinking about experimenting with an exhaust valve similar to the one in the picture below.
