The first Dacor light was the UL-700 and was available in 1963. I will have to guess, but maybe Ikelite? It does look similar to one of their first models.

Simon,

You're right on! Ikelite ("Ike Lite") began (to the best of my knowledge)
by making UW lights before camera housings!

Ike passed away a few months ago, I first met him during a visit to Dacor
in early 1960's.

Ike shortly thereafter made UW camera housings for Dacor for the Kodak
Instamatics!!

Tom

Way to go Allan, I wanted someone else to guess before I chimed in. Working at Ikelite gave me an unfair advantage on the question.

Tom, great questions. It is a great way for us to learn more about Dacor and their products.

Kgehring,

I'm trying to remember, were the 1st lights provided by Ike clear
and transparent before the Dacor UL 700?

What time frame did you work for Ike? How is Gale Livers?

Best,

Tom

Hi Tom, I think they were clear. I will try to find my 1964 ike catalog.
Gale is still there and is doing good. I have been at Ikelite for 7 years now and before that, I worked in the computer industry for 15 yrs. I serviced Gale's computers and Ike's computers.

I'm thinking that Ike supplied the original clear lights, later UL700s were
made by another company but Ike provided the On/Off switches?

Dacor sure did sell at lot of Ikelite made housings for the Kodak Instamatic!!

Hi to Gale Livers!!

Sorry to confuse the questions, but I believe that Sam Sr. founded Dacor and passed away before he was in the new building. Ikelite did make lites for Dacor and I will let you know the color tomorrow.

Dacor Tom,

It appears we have two answers to your trivia question.

1) ovalis answered Sam Davison Jr.

2) kgehring answered Sam Davison Sr.

Which answer is correct? :?:

Hi all,

Sorry for delay, I did not receive auto email notifications of replies.

I believe that Sam Davison Jr. is the correct answer. Sam Davison Sr.
was not known to many of us and worked as a sales person for Dacor
in the 1960s. But I'm going to defer to Dacor Jerry who has a remarkable
article prepared for Historical Diving Society.

Hope you enjoy my new avitar, it's a 17 yr old me in the FL Keys 1964 with a Dacor double hose. Photo by my father, now gone. Happy to dig it up today.

Best to all,

Tom
