Lady With a Spear... Eugenie Clark

Picked up this book the other day and have a question for the dedicated bibliophiles out there:

As seen here, the book is listed as a first edition yet there are three copyright dates (1951, 1952, 1953). How does one square that circle?

Very interesting book BTW that appeals to me in particular as I am something of a fish nut.

you picked up a classic book Dale! Dr. Clark also authored several other books including "lady and the sharks", mid 1960's.
what your question is about is called "first edition vs. first printing". go to wikipedia and type in: printers key. that will give a very good explanation to your question.
this is actully very good information for book collectors.

As fate would have it I often find books in themes (in this case skin diving) and as I was finishing Lady with a Spear I came across this:

I can't tell much as I just started reading but it describes the American early skin diving/spearo scene. There are some great early photos:
