The Terrible Hours

Sat Mar 01, 2008 4:08 pm

It came out in 1999 but I just read The Terrible Hours by Peter Maas (he also wrote Serpico and The Valachi Papers). The book is about the rescue and salvage of the Squalus with a focus on Swede Momsen. Very well written. It centers on the resucue but also covers the development of the momsen lung and some of the frst Helium hard hat diving. Great book.
“A skin diver is a fellow who pulls on a pair of fancy swimming trunks, some rubber fins, a diving mask and canvas gloves, then fills his lungs with air and noses down into the ocean looking for two fisted trouble.”
