Another Round of "What Have I Got?!?!?"

Sat Sep 15, 2018 9:37 am

Ladies & Gent's,

It's time to solve another mystery (at least for me!). I was at my local LDS a few days ago and the shop owner presented me with this mystery (he didn't know either). The best I could do was scratch my head and craft some tremendous theories as to what the heck it is.

Here's a few observations:
The nylon strapping appears to be designed for one to go around the waist and one over the shoulder.
The "plate" is plastic and is in fairly good shape.
The threaded hose fitting on the front of the plate is also plastic. This would rule out any high-pressure use??
All hoses are clamped to their fittings.
The hoses are in decent shape (a little stiff) and the mask looks to be in great shape.

My top two theories: (1) this is some type of set-up using a hookah/surface system or (2) part of some kind of bail-out system. I have no doubt that someone here will know exactly what this is. Y'all constantly amaze me with the depth of knowledge of vintage equipment.

Help solve this mystery!!

Looks like you have Bane's diving mask. Better let Batman know.
Formerly tripplec. Decided to use my real name since you guys aren't a bunch of flaky internet trolls.

This is from a surface supplied Johnson /Evinrude hookah unit.

My guess would be some kind of industrial mask for use in come kind of contaminated area or an area with fumes of some kind.

Good to know. I thought it might be some kind of Bong Rebreather.
