Things found in regulators

Tue Jul 23, 2019 7:00 pm

What have you found that doesn't belong in a regulator.
This was in the mouth piece of a Jet-Air I got the other day,

It also had a couple staples in the duckbill.
Was this something done often?
Never seen it before.

Hi The older duckbills did have a staple in them.

So Jerry, what was the purpose of the dolphin turd in the mouthpiece? 8)

Damn mud-daubers seem to get into everything. I actually had them decide to nest in the barrel of a "garage .22". No idea it happened until it bulged the barrel..... Thankfully it didn't wound me...

I turned on my big band saw for the first time in a couple months and it felt like it was going to shake itself apart. Opened up the cover and there was a mud wasp nest about the size of my fist on the wheel that was throwing it out of balance. They get everywhere!

If you stand still long enough a mud dauber will build a nest on you. It's like a dauber super highway in and out of my garage.

- Considering the staple in the duckbill... I have encountered DA Aqua Masters with the duckbill GLUED to the can. At first I thought it was the old rubber and saliva just turning the duckbill into glue. But now I think it was on purpose. Here's why...
- While fooling around with a Mistral, in which we had installed a new duckbill, we somehow managed to free flow the reg and in the process SUCKED THE DUCKBILL BACKWARDS. This caused the duckbill to jam shut on the next exhalation.
- Later we told Sea Hunt Jerry about it and he said that duckbills DO get sucked backwards once in awhile and jam up the exhale capability.
- So ever since then, when I install a duckbill, I put a drop of silicon glue on the back and glue it to the can. :)

A spider in the ambient chamber of my tire inflator MK5- no detrimental effect to either the arachnid or first stage.

Spider webs inside a 109.....

But it cleaned up nicely.

I learned never to breathe off a regulator you haven't inspected thoroughly. You might get a dead wasp/spider/rat turd down the hatch. Not fun.
