Piston on left looked very familiar, so I opened up my 1970 Calypso-J to be sure:

I don't remember ever seeing a Calypso piston without the recess for the spring.....Interesting!

The piston may have changed when they changed the end cap to be slightly longer, accepting a small spring with its threaded adjustment orifice at the hose end to make the IP adjustable. Or it may have been the next version when they added the swivel cap with two extra hose ports.

For part # 1047-28, is there a seating surface with a hole in the middle of it on the left side of that part?

Hole all the way though the center of both parts. Looks like some type of two piece high pressure seat.

It's been many years since I opened up a single-hose USD ROYAL second stage, but I am almost certain that this item is the demand poppet assembly for same.

I was thinking that the closest thing I could think of was the demand poppet for the single hose Royal, but the ones I've seen look similar but definitely different than the one pictured here. Possibly the same part, but maybe a design change along the way.

I recall these regs being a little troublesome to tune to my satisfaction, and it is possible that they had more than one version of the demand poppet in an attempt at improvement.
It's been about 30 years since I saw the insides of one, so I could be totally wrong!

The part number I have for the Royal Aqualung second stage poppet is 1014-28 but it looks a lot like it. My guess is, that is what the part is and is either mis marked or has a revised part number. If there is a soft seat in the large end, I would bet that is what it is.
I have a manual and exploaded view for both stages of the reg.

I found my stash of Royal poppets and that part is definitely it, but mine are a little different. The one in your picture, the middle section is round and has some tabs sticking out. On mine, that middle section is square instead of round. I have no idea which one is the early or later version.
