Also, the R109 is the "go to"' 2nd stage for cold water IMO unless you want to pump out the BIG BUCKS for an SP A-700 all metal bodied second stage. Just ensure that you have lubed the adjusting variable flow knob on the R-109 with some silicon lube before you dive it. I have also dove R190s in 42-degree water without any problems as well and they are a plastic bodied reg. I have heard that the "Darth Vader" type second stages by Scubapro are also very good for cold water dives. though I have no experience with them in cold water. Yeah, I love Scubapro for all my single hose regs, though I have some great Sherwood and US Divers ones as well. Scubapro IMO is just the best bang for the buck and in the vintage/classic world of single hose regulators, they are a real bargain, easy to acquire on the web and just too easy to refurbish. :D
